It’s been a week since Poppy came to stay with us, and what a week it’s been! She came to us shy and very scared. We could barely coax her out of the corner of her pen.
Now…she has blossomed! She has discovered what it’s like to be loved, and unfortunately, with that, comes separation anxiety. She wasn’t having the nice, spacious area we set up for her in our spare bedroom because it meant she was alone and away from us. For two nights, Dwight slept in the room with her. The next two nights, we let her sleep on the floor in our room with us. (You probably noticed there was no puppy on the puppy cam.) The next night, we tried putting a pen in our bedroom and relocating the puppy cam there, but no dice…so out of the pen she came. Ellen, one of the Homeward Trails doulas says she’ll probably be more amenable to staying in her pen once she gives birth to her puppies.
In other news, she has learned how to go up and down the patio steps and up the indoor steps, but she hasn’t got quite gotten brave enough to go down the indoor steps yet. No one is faulting her for that with that big belly of hers! She’s also discovered toys and belly rubs! When we take her out in the back yard, she rolls over on her back and offers her belly for a nice belly rub with a look on her face like she’s died and gone to heaven! 🙂
We’ve also started taking her on walks around the block with our three dogs, and she is quite comical. She will frequently stop, drop and roll in the grass. We’ve now dubbed her “Pop ‘n Roll”!
She got her first bath this week too, and she was a very good girl!
Poppy is the sweetest little girl with so much love to give, and we can’t wait to see her love on her puppies whenever they decide to make an appearance.
